The Water Usage Projection study conducted by
Indiana Business Research Center, Indiana University, Kelly School of
Business for Santa Claus, Indiana along with data supplied for this
study by Holiday World staff projects a need for a new water source for
the town of Santa Claus and its wholesale customers. However, it
reflects a very different basis for the need from the picture painted by
the Santa Claus Town Board.
Table III-2 in the Water
Usage Projection shows the Average Daily Usage and the Peak Daily
Usage. Actual average figures for the years 2001–2003 are listed for
Chrisney, Gentryville, Santa Claus, and Santa La Hill with a Total Less
Holiday World. A separate line lists Holiday World and then a Grand
Total. Beginning in 2005 continuing through 2055 in 5 year increments
the study shows the Average Daily Need and Peak Daily Need for each of
the above listed water users.
To keep it real simple a
comparison of the 2005 projected Peak Daily Need to the 2020 projected
Peak Daily Need will reflect that Holiday World is creating 93% of the
water demand requiring a new source of water supply for the Santa Claus
water district. There is no denying the need for a new water source.
The question to be answered is where does the burden of paying for
the new water source lie?
User 2005 Peak Day 2020 Peak
Day Peak Day Increase
Chrisney

Gentryville
69,700 73,400
Santa Claus

Santa La Hill

667,200 32,600 6.6%
Holiday
World 331,600
793,600 462,000 93.4%
Totals

The above information is
from the study provided to Santa Claus Town Board from Indiana Business
Research Center cited in the first paragraph.
The new water source is
needed. In fact the Phase 2 should be the only consideration, since the
study projects the Santa Claus Water District will exceed the Phase 2
Peak Day water output in 2020.
